I thought it would be helpful, before I get duplicate suggestions for research possibilities, to lay out where Ann and I have been and what we are going to do.
1. Jayhawker Yearbooks: We have looked through all relevant yearbooks that cover the overlap in Ethel, the Jay Janes, and the 1923 Jayhawk. We have explored them at both the Alumni Association and at Spencer Research Library.
2. We have searched the internet for Ethel, her husband Vance, and the felt Jayhawk. Extensively.
3. We have interviewed Bud Jennings, renowned collector of all things Jayhawk and creator of the Jayhawk Collection that was and will be featured in the Kansas Union. Click Here for more on the collection.
For Bud's history of collecting, Click Here.
4. I have reviewed all KSU, NU, and Lawrence town paper articles surrounding all football games from 1923-1929. These are digitized.
Our next avenues of research:
1. I will be reviewing the microfilm of the KU student newpapers whenever I am able to get back to Spencer for several hours. The KU student newspapers are not presently digitized.
2. Begging: We would love any help, suggestions, or stories that the public can offer.
While Ann has received offers on the Jayhawk, and she is listening to offers from collectors, we'd really love to be able to piece together this great story while learning more about Ethel in the process!
