Jay Janes: History and Articles

According to the 1956 Jayhawker Yearbook, the Jay Jaynes were founded in November of 1923, making its "first appearance on the Wednesday night before the Homecoming game with Missouri." The women's service and pep group, chosen from the various sorority houses and other clubs on campus, began as 35 women and grew to 62 by 1949.

The Jay Janes first appeared in the Jayhawker Yearbook in 1924, across from the men's pep club, the KU KUs.

Here are a few articles and photos on the Janes from a scrapbook in the University Archives at KU's Spencer Research . Library (Scrapbook 1949-1950) Because the scrapbook is from archives, I had to take pictures of the article rather than get a photocopy. Please excuse the piecing together of these.
